Plastic Micro-beads, Be Gone!
I’m sure you’ve heard the term “micro-beads” trending lately. At Sukin, our exfoliating particles are comprised of all things natural.
I’m sure you’ve heard the term “micro-beads” trending lately. President Barack Obama recently signed a law which prohibits selling and distributing products containing plastic micro-beads in the United States, and Australia seem to be following in the same footsteps. “Coles and Woolworths have responded and committed to banning micro-beads from their shelves by the end of 2017” (Whyte, ABC.net) Can I get a hallelujah?
This news is music to our ears. Despite the fact that plastic micro-beads are barely visible to the naked eye, their existence is becoming a detrimental issue. Typically found in cleansers, body scrubs and soaps, plastic micro-beads are not biodegradable and once they enter the marine environment, they are impossible to eliminate.
At Sukin, our exfoliating particles are comprised of all things natural. Not only are the ingredients environmentally friendly, the results are effective (if we do say so ourselves). Derived from all natural sources, our Revitalising Facial Scrub and Purifying Body Scrub uses non-abrasive micro particles of bamboo extract and ground walnut shells, and our Super Greens Detoxifying Facial Scrub contains micro jojoba beads and ground bamboo. These exfoliating particles offer your skin a gentle polish, remove dead skin cells and impurities, leaving your skin feeling clean, smooth and radiant – without harming the earth.
Although Australia is a long way off all products being free of plastic micro-beads, this is giant step in the right direction!
