The most common sulphates you'll find in shampoos and conditioners are sodium lauryl sulphate and sodium laureth sulphate. You may have seen them referred to as SLS.

No matter what they're called, if you want healthy hair, you should look for SLS-free shampoos and conditioners.

So what about silicones? Silicones are manmade materials that are sort of like plastics. They give your hair the appearance of shine, but end up leaving it damaged. That's because it's basically coating your hair in plastic!
What's more, silicones weigh your hair down over time, making it dull and lifeless. They keep vital moisture out of your hair, and make your conditioner less effective.
