Why Switch to Natural Skincare?
We all, to some degree or another, understand that toxins are bad for us. We avoid ingesting toxins, so why are we so complacent when it comes to putting them on our skin?
We all, to some degree or another, understand that toxins are bad for us. We avoid ingesting toxins, so why are we so complacent when it comes to putting them on our skin?
People are growing increasingly mindful about what they put on their skin, as many of the ingredients we apply topically (on to our skin, as opposed to in to our bodies) is absorbed through the skin and into the body. When we consider how easily the toxins found in many mainstream skincare products can be absorbed into our system, we begin to realise just how dramatically our beauty choices can affect our overall health and wellbeing.
Natural skincare can soothe irritations and target skin concerns
While any and all skin types can benefit from switching to natural skincare, natural products are particularly beneficial for people who suffer from skin sensitivities. Skin irritations and sensitivities are often triggered by artificial fragrances, alcohol, parabens and synthetic foaming agents, all of which are common in traditional skincare products. Making the switch to a natural skincare routine will cut the vast majority of common irritants from your routine, reducing the risk of flare ups and working to naturally heal and soothe skin sensitivities.
Natural products will maintain the health of the skin
Aside from being great for sensitive and dry skin, natural skincare can also improve the health of oily and acne-prone skin. Many traditional skincare products marketed as an “acne cure” contain sulphates and other harsh chemicals that strip the skin of its natural oils. Acne itself is caused by an overproduction of oils which leads to clogged pores that then become infected with bacteria. These chemicals give oily skin an almost immediate “clean” feeling, but what these chemicals are actually doing, however, is stripping the skin of its precious natural oils- a protective layer that works to lock in moisture and keep out bacteria and free radicals. By stripping the skin of these oils we might be drying out the acne-causing oils, but we’re also drying out the oils our skin needs in order to function at its very healthiest. This kicks our body’s oil production into overdrive, taking us all the way back to square one.
Natural ingredients are just as effective as their chemical counterparts
One of the greatest misconceptions about natural skincare is that it simply does not work. While many assume that powerful, “active” skincare needs to contain harsh chemicals, natural products and ingredients can be just as potent. Rather than using chemicals as “filler” ingredients, Sukin only uses preservatives where necessary in the interests of human health and protection against contamination. This means, with a natural routine, you’re able to deliver potent, concentrated ingredients to your skin.
With so many effective, accessible natural skin care solutions readily available today, perhaps the question should be “Why not consider a more natural approach?”
